Dave Grohl is in an adorable remote drum battle with a 10-year-old

We stan a legend in the making.

Not even a pandemic can stop Dave Grohl from doing that thing where he highlights young up-and-coming performers. In fact, Twitter might be the perfect platform for an extended drum battle.

It started on Aug. 17 with a tweet. Nandi Bushell, a 10-year-old drumming phenom whose skills have caught the attention of Lenny Kravitz, admitted that it's her dream "to one day jam with Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, and all the Foo Fighters."

The tweet included a clip of her just straight ripping along to the Foo's 1997 hit, "Everlong." Complete with some of the best stick twirling you've probably seen from a pre-teen.

The video concludes with Bushell smiling wide and shouting "Check! Mate!" into the camera, because clearly no one can top this. Right?

Well Grohl, who isn't on Twitter, caught wind of the tweet. How do we know that? He responded. Unwilling to accept the checkmate, he fired back on the Foo Fighters Twitter account with a little video of his own.

"I haven't played that song since the day I recorded it in 1997," he said, adding that Foo Fighters drummer Hawkins plays it for the band. Grohl goes on to tell his young fan that he's watched her videos and that he's really impressed with her talent. But that's not all.

"Today, I'm going to give you something you may not have heard before," he said. "This is a song called 'Dead End Friends' from a band called Dead Crooked Vultures, which is me playing drums, Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age playing guitar and singing, and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin playing bass.

"This is my response to your challenge. So now the ball is in your court."

Bushell has yet to respond, but we're sure she's going to cook up some absolute fire in what we hope will be the epic social media drum battle that carries us through this neverending pandemic.

Update!

Bushell has responded. She's in. The battle is on.

You have to watch that response video. This continues to be one of the greatest developments of 2020.

UPDATE: Aug. 30, 2020, 2:51 p.m. EDT Added Bushell's response to Grohl's video.
